  • MySQL basics

  • to connect to a mysql databse, you can type in: mysql -u root

    This should connect you into the mysql front-end

    To find out what databases you have, type in:

    select databases;

    to open up a particular database type in: use *name*;

    for example: use impresscms;

    You can view the table names within the database with: show tables;

    to actually look into the table layout, you can use: describe *tablename*;

    so for example: describe user;

    to select certain information from the table to view, use the select command.

    So for example: select User, Password from user;       (with “user” being the table name and User, Password being the column names within the table)
